Scrap Metal

Insurance for Your Scrap Metal Business

On any given day, your scrap metal business is busy with activity. Drivers travel off-site to pick up metal, customers enter the yard to drop off materials, and employees operate heavy machinery to sort and prepare inventory for delivery to a foundry or other location. With so much going on, having the right insurance solution can help protect your operation and keep it moving in the event of a loss. At Liberty Mutual Insurance, our program for scrap metal dealers offers coverages and services to address your business’s unique needs.

What Your Policy Includes
Your coverage can help protect customers while they’re at your location, your vehicles and equipment, and your inventory—whether it is on-site or off-site. We can even cover losses if your customers’ vehicles or other property is accidently damaged while at your yard.

Coverages available:

  • Commercial auto
  • General liability (including impaired property and conversion)
  • Inland marine
  • Property
  • Umbrella

This program is designed for full-time scrap metal dealers with:

  • At least 85 percent ferrous and nonferrous operations
  • A current ownership structure in place for three or more years

The program is not available in Hawaii, and coastal exposures and large shredding operations are ineligible.
